I want to suggest two movies that are an absolute MUST SEE. “Sicko” by Michael Moore and “Zeitgest.” For the most part, they are both very enlightening movies that will open your eyes to what is going on around you. There are certain aspects that may be debatable, but there are definitely solid points made.
“Sicko” shows you how crazy our healthcare system looks to the outside world. It makes you feel ignorant to realize that we are one of the only modern and developed countries without free/affordable healthcare for everyone. Canada, France, England, hell even Cuba all have free healthcare systems. The thing about this movie that got me is that I have full healthcare coverage and figured although this was a problem, it wasn’t an immediate concern for me. WRONG. There are tons of cases where people had full health coverage and were denied treatment they needed because their insurance companies refused to pay, sometimes resulting in death! Why you ask? There are people whose sole jobs are to figure out ways to make a person “ineligible” so that they can deny claims and save the insurance company money. Sure, denying you may cause you to lose a limb or die, but it saved the company half a million dollars and that person got a promotion. It’s all about money these days. And I used to wonder why Magic Johnson went to France for his HIV treatments. The cure for at least some cancers has been discovered but doctors in America can’t use it because the insurance companies would lose money on not being able to sell the treatment drugs that the cure would eliminate. How dirty is that!! Did you know that tons of heroes who helped out at ground zero after 9/11 developed serious lung and breathing disorders due to the heavy dust on the scene? Did you know that for the most part, the Government has refused to help them because they weren’t technically on the Government’s payroll, but volunteers? In the movie they showed people who have become so sick they are unable to work, have no health coverage and nobody is willing to help them, although they found it in their hearts to help others after the 9/11 attacks!! Did you know that the only place in the United States of America that has FREE HEALTHCARE is JAIL!? Michael Moore ended up taking some of the people to Cuba and they were treated for free on the spot. Can you believe that.
“Zeitgeist” has 3 parts and the first part is heavily aimed at religion. Religion is really touchy, so I’m not even going to state my opinion on that, you’re on your own there. However the rest of “Zeitgeist” expounds on the Federal Reserve post I touched on, as well as show how the 9/11 attacks were an inside job…completely planned by our Government to get us to support the Iraq/Afghanistan war. Crazy ain’t it? It really gets into the things people are doing behind the scenes and how someone is controlling your life and you don’t even realize it. America ranks among the lowest in the world in many academic disciplines (wonder why they keep outsourcing?) and our society is proliferated with entertainment. The government isn’t interested in us being the smartest country in the world…why do you think they aren’t putting billions of dollars into our school systems like they are putting billions of dollars into Iraq? You get what you pay for and they are getting what they want. Drugs, alcohol, gangs, sports, reality tv, etc are all thrown at you constantly so that you don’t spend your time actually thinking, reading books, newspapers, getting advanced degrees and educating yourself. They know that if you learn and think too much you will realize what is going on and eventually put it to an end. Don’t become a statistic! More people voted for American Idol than in the ‘04 Presidential Election. Don’t let that happen this year. The average American wastes 2.6 hours a day or more watching TV. Please take a couple of hours to watch these two movies. I promise it will make you think about things and it may change your life.
